Summary, etc. ABSTRACT: Ectopic pancreas is a rare congenital disease usually found in the stomach (25%-38%), and is usually asymptomatic. Patients are mostly diagnosed incidentally on autopsy (0.5 to 13.7%) or laparotomies (0.2%), but when symptomatic, patients usually present epigastric pain or heartburn (27%), nausea and vomiting (27%), ulceration (27%), weight loss (18%) and dyspepsia. This case report aims to discuss an even rarer presentation of this already rare disease. This case is of a 74-year-old female who presented with abdominal pain and distention for one week, associated with change in bowel habits, and occasional melena. Whole abdominal CT scan showed an irregular enhancing nodule along the medial wall of the proximal jejunum. She was diagnosed with partial bowel obstruction secondary to a jejunal mass, probably malignant, and promptly underwent Emergency diagnostic Laparoscopy with adhesiolysis with Laparoscopic resection of the jejunum and primary anastomosis. Intraoperatively, there was a mass approximately 3 cm in size, 10cm from the Ligament of Treitz, with surrounding adhesions through the mesentery and transverse colon. The Histopathology results were consistent of a heterotopic pancreas. The patient tolerated the procedure and had an unremarkable postoperative course.
