Summary, etc. ABSTRACT:
Background: Subchorionic hemorrhage involves the accumulation of blood between the chorion and uterine wall, diagnosed by ultrasound. These may resolve spontaneously or may lead to miscarriage or preterm delivery. Certain characteristics and maternal factors may affect pregnancy outcome.
Objective: Determine the association of 1sl trimester Subchorionic Hemorrhage with the pregnancy outcome among women with uncomplicated pregnancies at a Tertiary Medical Center from 2018 to 2021.
Methods: A cross-sectional study which involved review of charts of women who delivered and had their first trimester ultrasound in a tertiary hospital from 2018 to 2021. From the eligible charts, data extracted included age, gravidity, parity, age of gestation on initial scan, signs of threatened abortion, presence or absence of first trimester subchorionic hemorrhage during scan, treatment received, and age of gestation at pregnancy termination. Purposive sampling done.
Results: There were 327 eligible charts of women with first trimester scan from January 2018 to December 2021. Among these, 54.4% (179/327) had subchorionic hemorrhage. About 86.85% (284/327) reached viability. Most women with subchorionic hemorrhage had signs and symptoms of threatened abortion (97.37%) and received treatment (98.13%) (P <0.001). Viable pregnancy was associated with subchorionic hemorrhage of less than 10ml (82.08%) and with resolution of less than 7 days (98.8%) (P <0.001).
Conclusion: First trimester subchorionic hemorrhage is associated with the presence of signs and symptoms of threatened abortion. Consequently, affected women were mostly given treatment. Subchorionic hemorrhage with smaller size and shorter resolution had better pregnancy outcome.
Keywords: Subchorionic hemorrhage, first trimester, pregnancy outcome Pregnancy outcomes of Subchorionic Hemorrhage during the 1st trimester among women with uncomplicated pregnancies seen at a Tertiary Medical Center from 2018 to 2021.
