Summary, etc. ABSTRACT:
Microscopy, a cornerstone in diagnosing pathogenic diseases, faces accessibility challenges in resource-constrained settings due to the limitations of traditional microscopes. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Keychain Make-Ro scope, a portable 3D-printed microscope, as an alternative modality to traditional light microscopes for selected medical
diagnostic applications. Focusing on parameters such as clarity of specimen, contrast, shape, color, and ease of use, research aims to offer an alternative to conventional diagnostic equipment. Underserved rural areas with restricted access to healthcare resources stand to benefit from the practicality and impact of this alternative diagnostic tool. Utilizing comparative
research design, the study involves Medical Technologists comparing the keychain Make-roscope with traditional light microscopes. Data analysis employs descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, and weighted mean, offering insights into the performance of the Make-roscope. For inferential statistics, the Mann-Whitney U test is employed, revealing
significant differences in parameters. Based on the data gathered, the results show that the Keychain Make-roscope exhibited significant differences in specific parameters across parasite, bacterial, tissue, and blood smear examinations compared to traditional microscopes. These findings emphasize the nuanced performance of the keychain Make-roscope and highlight its
potential in certain diagnostic applications. The study recommends using the keychain Make-roscope for examining parasites and urine sediments, and suggests exploring direct fecal smear for real-time diagnosis.
Keywords: Microscopy, Make-roscope, Mann-Whitney U test, alternative modality, comparative research design
