Summary, etc. ABSTRACT:
Background: Although the government has established numerous policies and programs aimed at protecting the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs), there remains a significant gap that requires attention in terms of implementing and utilizing them effectively (Velasco et al., 2021). According to statistics from Philhealth, only 14% of the eligible members were able to utilize its benefits in 2017 which can be attributed to lack of awareness on Philhealth benefits and education on its services (Nisperos et al., 2022) Although PWDs experience the burden of living with limitations and disadvantages in their daily living, their primary caregivers face the challenge of taking care and providing for their needs both physically and financially (Lasco et al., 2020).
Objective: The study was made to determine the relationship between the level of awareness of the primary caregivers on Philhealth assistance and caregiver quality of life, specifically: (1) To determine the relationship between Primary Caregiver awareness on Philhealth assistance and Quality of Life (2) To determine the level of awareness of Primary Caregivers on Philhealth assistance for Children with Disabilities, & (3) To identify what government assistance is commonly utilized by the Primary Caregivers of the CWDs.
Methodology: The collection of data was done through face-to-face interviews with the use of a set of questionnaires that was filled out with information from the primary caregivers of the CWDs currently receiving therapy at a private clinic. An Awareness Questionnaire was administered face-to-face to gather the needed data to figure out the awareness of PCGs of CWDs on Philhealth assistance, and the use of the outcome measurement questionnaire Filipino WHOQOL-BREF was also done to ascertain the level of the quality of life of the subjects.
Results: The overall result of this study showed that the level of awareness was identified but was not statistically significant in correlation to the QOL of primary caregivers and parents of the CWDs. There is a low level of awareness among
the participants with regards to PhilHealth’s benefits and services available to the beneficiaries.
Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that there is high awareness among the primary caregivers regarding the mandatory PhilHealth membership but low awareness in terms of all benefits & programs offered by the insurance corp (e.g. Z benefit & In/out-patient services). In addition, this allows opening untouched areas of this research such as socioeconomic status as an indicator for the QOL, the awareness of PhilHealth benefits to the QOL of parents and caregivers in a public hospital setting, and the correlation of the Quality of Care (QOC) to the QOL
