ABSTRACT:
This study investigates the effectiveness of building UVCAP, a UVC light strip attached
to the cap powered by a battery or solar panel capable of sterilizing water fit for drinking. During
the COVID-19 pandemic, the transfer of infected respiratory droplets can cause a person to be
infected by the virus. Thorough disinfection is utilized to eliminate harmful microorganisms,
such as alcohol disinfection and UVC light disinfection. The objective of this study is to see the
difference between before and after UVC exposure in distilled water, tap water, and Bitbit River
water’s potability. The Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW) standards
are used to test water potability, composed of total coliform, thermotolerant coliform, and
heterotrophic plate count. The data gathered showed no difference before and after UVCap
exposure in distilled water, tap water, and Bitbit river water in total coliform, thermotolerant
coliform, and heterotrophic plate count. The results conclude that the UVCAP is ineffective in
sterilizing Bitbit river water to the point that it is drinking water. With this, using river water is
recommended if the researchers need water with high coliform.
Keywords: UVCAP, total coliform, thennotolerant coliform, heterotrophic plate count,
water |
