Summary, etc. | Abstract: Music may decrease the anxiety experienced by patients before surgery. It may decrease the intra-operative sedative (Midazolam) requirements in patients undergoing surgical procedures. In this study, we sought to evaluate the effect of music in elderly undergoing cataract surgery with retrobulbar block and monitored anesthetic care using Midazolam. Thirty four ASA 2-3 elderly patients ages 50-70 years old, for Cataract Surgery was randomly assigned to Group 1 (control) no intervention given or group II: heard relaxing music during the surgery through lottery. Anxiety was assessed using the Wong-Baker FACES scale before and after surgery. Midazolan (0.5) was given intravenously as sedation. vital signs were documented before and after retrobulbar block and every 15 minutes thereafter. Between group comparisons were made using paired test and independent t test, where appropriate. |
