Summary, etc. | ABSTRACT: During the second stage of labor, midwives have used immediate and delayed pushing techniques to guide the parturient to a safe delivery. In the immediate pushing technique, the women are coached to start active pushing as soon as the cervix is fully dilated. In the delayed pushing technique, the women are allowed to wait until there is urge which allows spontaneous fetal descent. Numerous studies comparing the two techniques were conducted, measuring differences on the duration of the second stage of labor, maternal fatigue, neonatal outcomes, and rate of caesarean delivery, but have contrasting results. No published local study yet is done on primigravidas without epidural analgesia. |
