Abstract: This study is an investigation on the perception towards home care of the third year FEU-NRMF medical students of school year 1998-1999. The research aims to determine the perceptions towards home care of the subject as to the necessity of home care, personnel involved, cost of care, roles, advantages, and motivating factors of home care, and the time involved in home care. The proportion of students with preference for home care in their future practice was also examined. A total of 213 respondents were included in the study. They were asked to answer a twelve-item self-administered questionnaire in check-list form. The study design is a descriptive study, and the whole population was included in the study. The UP-PGH home care program was used as a model of the perceptions. Data gathered were analysed by descriptive analysis. Results showed that most of the third year FEU-NRMF medical students have right perceptions toward home care in all the are as mentioned above, while a few respondents have minor inappropriate perceptions for local home care setting. Majority of the respondents (67.61%) would like to do home care in their future practice, very few (1.4%) prefer not to, and 31.45% were unsure of their answers. We recommend that home care program be incorporated as part of the regular undergraduate curriculum and opportunities for direct exposure to home care be given in the further training programs. |
