Summary, etc. | ABSTRACT: The diuretic property of gumamela (Hibiscus rosasinensis) flower extract was assessed in the study of 14 male cats by determining the dose of Hibiscus extract that gives the highest amount of urine excreted, by comparing the diuretic effect of certain dilution of Hisbiscus extract with that of Furosemide and by comparing the diuretic effect of a certain dilution of Hibiscus extract with that of the baseline. The cats were divided into 7 set-ups. Set-up A received water (negative control); set-up G received furosemide (positive control); and set-up B, C, D, E, and F received gumamela extract of the following concentration respectively: 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%. After 6 hours the average urine output collected for set-up A and G was 0, 0.35. 1.415, 2.75, 4.125, 5.75, and 7.25 ml respectively. Therefore, the concentration of the Hibiscus extract is directly proportional to the diuretic effect. Highest amount of urine output was obtained at 10.0 dilution. This is supported by the T-test statistics which showed that the dilution of 10.0 give significant results when compared to the negative control but insignificant value when compared to the positive control. |
