Summary, etc. | ABSTRACT: To compare the antimicrobial property of garlic and eucalyptus extract against Staphylococcus aureus, 10 white male mus musculus where acclimatized for a week and then subjected to incisions. Each of the mouse`s four extremities were subjected to a 10 mm incision and then introduced with Staphylococcus aures. Then after 24 hour incubation period was observed, three different treatments were introduced in each of the incisions: Mupirocin being the positive control in the right lower extremities; fresh garlic extract in the right upper extremities; and fresh eucalyptus extract in the left upper extremities. No treatment was introduced in the left lower extremities which served as the negative control. Then daily follow-ups on the measurement of the incised wound and formation of granulation were done. After 6 days of follow - up, it showed that for the wound length: on day 3, greatest rate was observed for Eucalyptus followed by Mupirocin and the reverse was seen on day 5. While for the length of granulation: On day 3 greatest rate on the length of granulation tissue was observed for Garlic followed by Eucalyptus while on day 4, it was seen in the group with no intervention followed by Garlic and on Day 5 it was seen in Garlic followed by Eucalyptus. Data of this study suggest that as the day progresses the length of wound shortens while the length of granulation initiallyincrease but after reaching its peak it declines. |
