Summary, etc. The FEU-NRMF Molecular Laboratory project has been reviewed and carefully studied in this feasibility study considering its market, technical, organization, financial viability and socio-economic impact in the community and the larger society it will serve. Its objective is to provide diagnostic, training and research services to the FEU-NRMF community, its neighbors and the larger population with its most current and reliable laboratory modalities. Consistent with the FEU-NRMF's vision to be in the forefront of medical and paramedical education, the molecular laboratory shall provide quality health care training, relevant research, and laboratory services as a section of the Clinical Laboratory of the Medical Center located in the 1.5 hectare campus in West Fairview, Quezon City. Specifically it will replace the Microbiology Extension Laboratory, a 48sq.m. facility situated on the 5th floor bridge way the Institute of Medicine and the Medical Center . FEU-NRMF, the family-owned, tertiary level medical center that will soon house molecular laboratory, will be positioned as one of the few teaching and training institutions that can provide the most rapid and accurate diagnostic techniques. It will be known as the first School of Medical Laboratory Science to offer hands-on training in molecular diagnosis offering the most advanced techniques in diagnostics within an excellent environment. It will be an important part of the Clinical Laboratory and has been largely considered in order to serve the molecular diagnostic needs of patients for faster process and more convenient access to reliable laboratory results thereby providing better service, and consequently better patient outcomes: early detection of viruses, tuberculosis, antibiotic resistant bacteria and neoplasia. The technical study will show in greater detail the 48 sq.m. area plan for the machines, equipment, tools, reagents and other physical requirements to comply with molecular laboratory requirements. It will provide the costing of the initial investment. The laboratory will be efficiently and effectively manned by registered medical technologist, trained in molecular techniques, who will perform the determinations and maintain the facility within quality standards. A clinical pathologist will supervise the technical staff, interpret the results of the tests and manage the facility. The financial study indicates a projected investment of approximately Php 7.5 million, the payback is in approximately 3 years. Additional revenues can be obtained from student's laboratory fees, alumni donations, facilities fee for researchers and tie-ups with government agencies, research groups and professional societies. The socio-economic factors having been considered indicate that the establishment of the Molecular Laboratory can greatly enhance the services of the current clinical laboratory as it will provide fast, reliable and convenient access to results that will better support the doctor's and clinician's decision making for more accurate diagnosis, consequently leading to better patient outcomes.
