Summary, etc. Abstract: Homemade virgin coconut oil (VCO) maintains its anti-ovidative effect, similar to that of commercially manufactured VCO. This was the finding of the researchers when the anti-oxidative property against low density lipoprotein (LDL) from the three (3) different VCO prepartions, homemade VCO, banana flavored VCO and natural flavored VCO, was determined in male white mice (Mus musculus). To facilitate oxidation of LDL, oral dosage of thyroxine was provided. A separate group of white mice was given thyroxine, without the oil, serving as the control group. The malondialdehyde level in plasma samples was measured using the Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substance (TBARS) Assay Kit to determine quantitatively the anti-oxidative property of each VCO preparation. Results of the study were compared using the one-way analysis (ANOVA). There was no significant difference between the results of the three (3) types of oil preparation when the mean results (with an F-ratio of 0.076 with F-value of 3.47 having 0.05 to its right with 2 and 21 degrees of freedom) for each were analyzed.
