Abstract: Here in the philippines, mycology is not often research. Alternative culture mediums can help laboratories as well as patients economically. Hence, the effectiveness of peanut oil, honey and papaya extracts as an alternative culture medium for candida albicans was investigated in this research. Candida albicans is the most commonly-isolated in human disease. It is also the leading cause of candidiasis. The effectiveness of the agar produced was tested based on the rate and robustness of growth, microscopic and macroscopic characteristics and its cost in comparison to the standard culture medium for candida albicans, sabouraud dextrose aga. The php agar was manually prepared using papaya as a source of nitrogen, peanut as a source of protein and honey as the source of glucose. All these components are essential for the growth of fungi. Overall, it was found that both the php agar and sda produced the same growth except for the color of the microorganism. |
