Summary: Abstract: Epidural anesthesia is currently utilized to provide anesthesia for surgeries on the lower abdomen and lower extremities. It is also used for post-operative pain relief and labor analgesia. The success relies on correct placement of the epideral catheter on the epidural space. The patient's weight and may affect the difficulty of epidural catheter placement. This study aims to find there is a correlation between the body mass index (BMI) and the depth of skin to lumbar epidural space. To correlate the distance from the skin to lumbar epidural space with body mass index and abdominal girth among non-parturient patients in a tertiary medical center. This is a retrospective analytic cross-sectional study that will determine the correlation between body mass index with skin to lumbar epidural space depth. A chart review admitted patients in which Epidural anesthesia was utilized, from January-December 2017. There is a definite correlation of body weight and body mass index of patients with distance from skin to lumbar epidural space . As The BMI increases, the depth of lumbar epidural space also increases.
