Summary: Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine weather bioplastics can be a sustainable replacement for conventional plastics. In determining if bioplastics can be an environmentally sustainable alternative for conventional plastics, both plastics will be tested in terms of their functionality, durability, and cost-effectiveness to find out if there is a significant difference in their characteristics. The study make use of comparative research design to make an in-depth comparison between conventional plastics and bioplastics as well as experimental research design to determine the characteristics specifically in their functionality, durability, and cost-effectiveness. In testing the characteristics in terms of functionality, durability, and cost-effectiveness, a criteria was used in order to determine id both plastics are functional, durable, and cost-effective. A Shore-A Durometer is also used in testing the durability of the plastics. There is no significant difference between characteristics of bioplastics and conventional plastics. The initial results of this study can be used to promote environmental sustainability by proving that bioplastics can be a suitable replacement for conventional plastics and by sharing an infographic about bioplastics.
