Summary: Abstract: In head and neck noeplasm thyroid nodules are most commonly seen in the late adulthood. This case was especially true in our country. Majority of the nodules are benign in origin. Fine needle aspiration biopsy, a screening test, could assist the clinicians on the management of their patients. The research design utilizes cross sectional method with a total population of 83 patients that came in our institution and United Doctors Medical Center for anterior neck mas. All patients had undergone both procedures of FNAB and thyroidectomy at FEU-NRMF and UDMC with a time period of five years. The collected data was analyzed using Microsoft excel and EPI Info version 7. 83 samples both underwent FNAB and histopathology were segregated and classified using the Bethesda criteria. The result showed that FNAB is a highly specific test, and by using only category only V and VL for classification increases the specificity to 96.36 & as compared to using category IV, V and VI specificity of 89% and using category III, IV,V and VI specificity of 72.73%. Fine needle aspiration biopsy of the thyroid is a better tool for screening of thyroid nodules especially in assessing benign lesions.
