Summary: Abstract: The emergence of COVID-19 infection has dealt a great impact throughout countless of countries, affecting primarily the elderly population with comorbidities. With the advent of vaccines, studies have shown that the incidence of COVID-19 infection has decreased. However, in breakthrough infection, a person tests positive for COVID-19 2 weeks after fully vaccinated. We look into the incidence of breakthrough infection as profiling their age, sex, comorbid conditions, also looking the area of their residence, type of vaccine, and severity of COVID-19 infection. In this retrospective observational study, we reviewed a total of 349 COVID-19 admissions from March 2021 to March 2022, of which, 89 patients had breakthrough infection. At the end of the study, we observed that elderly population with comorbid conditions who received inactivated virus vaccine are vulnerable to breakthrough infection and should be prioritized to receive booster doses. The limitations of this study is that it is a single-center retrospective study, thus, limiting the sample size, therefore, we recommend a multi-center study for a larger sample size.
