ABSTRACT:
The use of social media has become a prominent part of our life for many young people today. Most people engage with social media without stopping to think what the effects are on our lives, whether positive or negative. The research investigated the attitude and perception of selected level four students on the use of social media. It identified the most commonly used social media site and determined the attitude and perception of students on the use of social media. The researchers used a descriptive research design in order to investigate the attitude and perception of the respondents. A self-made questionnaire was used in this research and comprises of three parts: the first part was the demographic profile consisting of the name and the gender of the respondents, the second part was a check box regarding the most commonly used social media sites and the last part was to determine attitude and perception of the respondents using Likert scale. The questionnaire was administered to 167 students from Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Medical Technology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Pharmacy, Respiratory
Therapy of Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation. The results of the study showed that among the five most commonly used social media is the- Facebook had the highest percentage of 99.4% is composed of 166 students while in social media that is frequently used by the respondents is -Google Plus obtained 32.9% of composed of 55 respondents. The total average of attitude is 77.13% and in perception the total average of perception is 72.54%. The result indicated that level four basic education students uses social media effectively. The researchers recommended increasing the internet capacity in
school to have longer time accessing social media towards helping them in their studies, connecting to other people and gathering information.
