Online resources: Summary: ABSTRACT: This study tests the alpha-glucosidase inhibitory effects of Ampalaya (Momordica charantia) and Singkamas (Pachyrhizus erosus) methanolic extract. Before the conduct of the experiment, the plant samples are authenticated by the Far Eastern University Herbarium to be Momordica charantia and Pachyrhizus erosus. The methods used in this study are divided into two parts. In the first part, Ampalaya and Singkamas were macerated for 72 hours before they were evaporated to leave a dried extract. The second part was conducted by the analysts from the University of the Philippines Diliman - Terrestrial Natural Products Laboratory where the in vitro alpha-glucosidase inhibition assay was performed. The purpose of this study is to help Filipinos, as well as people globally, who are sufferingfrom diabetes. Another purpose of study is to guide future researchers who wish to further their knowledge regardingthe study of common vegetable plant extract against diabetes. This research focuses only on Ampalaya (Momordica charantia) and Singkamas (Pachyrhizus erosus ) local in the Philippines, methanol as an extraction solvent, maceration as an extraction process, and the inhibition of the alpha-glucosidase enzyme. Keywords: alpha-glucosidase, Ampalaya, diabetes, in vitro, macerated, Singkamas
