Acute appendicitis is the most common acute surgical condition of the abdomen. it is usually caused by fecaliths or less commonly, lymphoid hypertrophy, tumors, vegetable and fruits seeds or intestinal parasites. Among the intestinal parasites mentioned in literature are Ascaris Lumbricoides and Oxyuriasis vermicularis but seldom mention Schistosoma as the predominant cause of inflammation. among regions in the Philippines endemic for schistosomiasis are the Western Visayas and Eastern Mindanao. However no local data yet is available for "schistosomal appendicitis are seen in FEU-NRMF Medical Center wherein an average of 3 appendectomies per month is being done. This paper discuss the hypothesized theories to explain the pathogenesis of schistosomal appendicitis and to further strength the awareness of laymen and doctors alike towards such disease entity.
