Summary: Abstract: Sore throat is the most frequent subjective complaint after tracheal intubation for general anesthesia. This may add discomfort for a patient already battling a surgical pain which may range from mild to moderate to severe. Both of these methods are effective in prevention of aspiration, but may not be effective for the prevention of post-operative sore throat which has the lower incidence of sore throat can then be considered as a standard of practice. The purpose of this study was to compare the incidence of sore throat from patients undergoing laparoscopic chelcystectomy from April 2013 to October 2013 using 2 methods, the Negative Leak Method, which is more commonly used, and the Pressure Regulated Method which is considered by a number of previous studies as the ideal method. 64 patients were randomly assigned into 2 groups: the first group for negative leak method (NLM group) and the second group for pressure regulation method (PRM). Pain on swallowing was assessed for each patient on the 2nd hour and 24th hour post-operative period. There was no significant difference (p=0.16> 0.05) between the groups on the 2nd post-operative period. On the 24th hour post operative period, the NLM group presented a significant higher incidence of sore throat than the PRM group. (p=0.08 < 0.10) This research showed that the pressure regulated method had a significantly lower incidence of sore throat compared to the negative leak method in laparoscopic cholecyctectomy patients.
