Summary: ABSTRACT: Limited local study is available regarding assessment of quality of care among admitted patients with pneumonia and their correlation to acute care outcome. A retrospective study was done in all admitted patients with a diagnosis of Pneumonia using the quality indicators based on the study of Meehan and Esguerra et al to assess the quality of care given to pneumonia patients admitted in a hospital and correlate these to in hospital mortality. This study reviewed the medical charts of 365 adult patients admitted to Far Eastern University Medical Center with primary or secondary diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia from July, 2006 to June 30, 2007 and noted that there was no significant association between quality indicators with regards to outcome as proven by the p value of 0.65. However, among the different comorbidities the presence of liver disease and Cerebrovascular disease were significantly associated with a poor outcome with p values 0.04 and 0.008 respectively and also among the different physical findings associated with outcome the result showed that altered mental status, SBP,<90 mmHg, and DBP <60mmHg were signifincantly associated with a poor outcome as proven by all p value <0.05.
