Summary: ABSTRACT: Hemorrhagic transformation refers to ischemia related brain hemorrhage and is one of the deleterious complications of acute ischemic stroke frequent in patients treated with thrombolytic therapy. It is associated with poor outcome with either death or disabilityObservation was made that even without thrombolytic theraphy, some patients in FEU-NRMF Medical Center suffered hemorrhagic transformation. Many studies have concluded that diabetes mellitus and hyperglycemia during acute ischemic stroke is an independent oredictor of poor outcome in acute stroke but little is known if diabetes mellitus can predispose a patient to develop hemorrhagic transformation after cerebrovascular infarct without thrombolytic therapy. This study aims to dertermine the association of hemorrhagic transformation and type 2 diabetes mellitus among cerebrovascular infarct patient admitted at FEU-NRMF.
