Summary: ABSTRACT: Ultrasound is a common initial imaging examination performed for evaluation of suspected foca or diffuse abnormalities in the liver, life increased parenchymal echogenicity, as a manifestation of non-alcoholic steatohepatities (NASH). It can only provide changes in hepatic echogenicity. Liver biopsy is the only definitive way to obtain a diagnosis. However, ultrasound is suggested in the work-up of these patients. NASH was recognized as a district clinical entity, with liver biopsy findings identical to those of patients with alcoholic hepatitis, but without the consumption of alcohol in quantities known to cause liver injury. Patients wtih NASH were typically obese, middle-- age women often with diabetes or hyperlipidemia, with NASH being found as an incidental problem. NASH is a liver disease that, until recently, has been underrecognized as a common cause of elevated liver enzymes. This study describes the epxerience with HBT ultrasound as screening imaging modality of the patients suspected with NASH. From July 2003 to December 2003, patients with increased hepatic echogenicity inclusion into this study. A total of 84 patients qualified. The mean age is 47.88 (13.37). The youngest at 15 y.o. and the oldest at 77 y.o. They were subjected to laboratory studies, which may or may not be elevated in NASH, such as fasting blood sugar, Cholesterol, SGPT, SGOT, and Creatinine. The results showed elevated FBS values and generally, normal Cholesterol, SGPT, SGOT & Creatinine levels in the study population.
