ABSTRACT: Nurses are increasingly working overtime. In the Philippines, shortage of nurses, both in public and private hospitals, are becoming critical because of the advent of nurses migrating to more developed countries. Nurses also work overtime to compensate for the leave of absence of fellow workers or simply just to earn more money. However, the increasing amount of overtime and double shifts threaten nurses` ability to provide safe and individualized care for patients. This research aims to determine the efficiency6 of staff nurses who work double shift and the effects to their performance and own health as perceived by the staff nurses and patients themselves.
