Summary: ABSTRACT: The study focused on the Communication barriers affecting the academic performance of third year nursing students of Far Eastern University-Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation. The study integrated different barriers to communication that can diminish the effectiveness of acquiring and conveying good information, thus results to misunderstanding that can affect the academic performance of the students. The main objective is to know the communication barriers commonly encountered by the students and how it affects them in attaining high academic performance. The study was conducted in Far Eastern University - Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, institute of nursing with respondents from third year nursing students Batch 2008-2009. A survey was carried out among the 10 sections of the third year level and responses are evaluated for the significant relationship between the communication barriers encountered by the respondents and their profile. Significant statistical relationship was observed in both communication barriers encountered by the respondents and their profile in terms of gender and region of origin. It was further revealed that communication barriers sometimes affect the academic performance of the students and also with their emotional and interpersonal relationship with others.
