Summary: Abstract: Tuberculosis is a highly recognized occupational hazard among physicians and other health workers. This study aims to determine the radiographic incidence of PTB among third year regular medical students of FEU-NRMF batch `96 from June 1992 to September 1994. Sixty-four subjects were selected for the study. Chest x-ray results when they were in first year were evaluated. Chest x-rays were again taken to detect new cases during their third year in medical school. Questionnaire was distributed to support radiographic findings and to evaluate risk factors. Only 46 subjects completed the whole course of the study. Results were analyzed using chi-square at 95% confidence level. The study showed a incidence rate of 2.17%.. Exposure to PTB infected person was the only factor considered in this study found to be significantly affecting the infectious rate. However in this study, the exposure was noted to be outside the school hospital premises making it unsupportive of the claimed risk of the students in the medical institution. This study revealed no correlated risk of acquiring PTB by medical students and the activities in school.
