Summary: Abstract: An action program designed to promote breastfeeding and educate mothers on the value of breastfeeding of Barangay Calicanto, Batangas City was organized by the class of 3B. Fifty-one mothers participated in this one day seminar regardless of whether they breastfeed or not whether they are pregnant or not. Their pre-existing knowledge regarding breastfeeding was determined through a pre-seminar test. Afterwhich, a post-seminar test was conducted to assess the effectiveness of the seminar. Pre-seminar test result revealed that most mother participants have misconceptions regarding colostrum and its importance , the popular use of milk formula and misgivings about the effectiveness of breastfeeding as a method of contraception, the effects of breastfeeding on the breast and the techniques of breastfeeding. Data analysis comparing the results of the pre-seminar and post-seminar tests revealed that there was a significant difference in the knowledge gained. Hence, the objective of utilizing the seminar as an effective tool for promotion and education of breastfeeding was successfully achieved.
