Summary: Abstract: Previous studies that certain medicinal plants hypoglycemic effects in the this particular experiment, the extract of camote tops (Ipomea batatas) was used to determine whether it can lower the blood sugar level of hyperglycemic induced mice. Three doses of the extract (0.025 ml. 0.050 mL, 0 075mL0 was administered intraperitoneally to the hyperglycemic induced mice. All showed marked decrease in the blood glucose level. Among the three doses, the 0.075mL dose of Camote Methanolic Extract exerted the greatest capacity to decrease the blood sugar level almost similar to the effect of 0.050 mL dose of insulin. Certain limitations are however set in this experiment. Other effects besides its hypoglycemic principle were not observed. Also, the effects of doses higher than what were used in the experiment (specially 0.075 mL) were not determined. Due to inability of ample resources, the exact component causing the insulin like effect the duration of effectivity was not determined.
