Summary: ABSTRACT: This study dealt with the determination of the anti-inflammatory activity of the crude extract from the leaves of Rimas (Artocarpus altilis, Family Moraceae). The plant sample was collected, osteorized, and macerated with 95% ethyl alcohol as a method of extraction . It was then filtered using Whattman filter paper and the filtrate was concentrated using Rotatory Vaporization (ROTAVAP) until crude extract was obtained. The biological test was conducted to detrmine the anti-inflammatory activity of crude extract of Rimas leaves at the Pharmacological and Toxicology Laboratory of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Sprague-Dawley rats were used for the study of the anti inflammatory activity of Rimas leaves. The rats were subjected to Carrageenan induced edema method and plethysmometer. This was used to screen potential anti-inflammatory agents. Normal saline solution was used as a negative control and aspirin as the positive control. The administration of the drug was based on the weight of the subject. The foot volume differences and % inhibition were used as a parameter to determine the anti-inflammatory effect of the crude extract of Rimas leaves. Results showed negative inhibition by the drug sample on the edema-induced subjects. Therefore, the study proved that the crude extract of the Rimas leaves do not contain sufficient amounts of prenylated stilbenoid derivatives that would inhibit cyclooxygenase activity resulting to anti-inflammatory effects.
