Pharmacology Thesis
The effect of Morinda citrifolia (noni) fruit extract on blood cholesterol was tested on 20 (10 males and 10 females) human subjects with hypercholesterolemia. Each subject was instructed to go on with their usual diet for seven days and on the 8th day asked to fast for 12 hours prior to the extraction of blood for cholesterol analysis. The results of which serve as the control. All the subjects were given 210 ml of noni juice and were instructed to take 30 ml of it once a day for seven days while they go on with their usual diet. Then, on the eighth day, their fasting blood cholesterol was again measured. The results of which were compared to the control. After doing the statistical analysis, results shows that noni juice does not produce a significant lowering effect on the total blood cholesterol levels of the subjects.
