ABSTRACT: This research paper is about the determination of the overall diuretic property of the dried leaves of Morus alba L. (Mulberry). To ascertain this property, the following procedures were performed: extraction, qualitative analysis, diuretic testing, and toxicity testing. The extract obtained was tested for the presence of the active constituents responsible for the diuretic property of the leaf extract. The effective diuretic dose and toxic dose of the leaf extract were determined using mice as test animals. It is with purpose of looking for an alternative diuretic drug of commensurate quality as the ones present in the market that this particular study was done. Since the leaves of Morus alba L. (Mulberry) are widely available here in the Philippines, it is indeed of immense help if a substitute for high-priced diuretics can be had. Mulberry leaf extract showed significant diuretic activity as supported by experimentation.
