Pharmacology Thesis
An experimental study was conducted on the effects of honey in combination with Silver Sulfadiazine, honey and Silver Sulfadiazine alone in time healing process of superficial burns. A total of 15 white mice were injured at the back using hot nail head on three different sites. Application of the three modes of treatment twice a day with continuous monitoring on daily basis until appreciated healing is achieved. Observation of the appearance of the wound area and size of the lession will be the basis of analysis. From the 15 white mice, honey (53.33%) had the shortest mean time healing process of 6 days as compared to honey in combination with Silver Sulfadiazine(60% in 7.5 days) and the drug alone (60% in 9 days). The t-test value of 6.024 that is greater than 0.05 level of significance of 2.048, suggest that time healing process of honey alone and honey in combination with Silver Sulfadiazine is not equal. The economically accessible honey with anti-microbial activity, high proline and Vitamin C contents make it more effective on shortening the time healing process of superficial burns. Based on our findings, the researchers conclude that honey proves to heal the burn the fastest, followed by the combination of honey and silver sulfadiazine alone.
