Summary: ABSTRACT: The study investigated the potential hypolipidemic effect of oregano oil in rabbits. Thirty male rabbits were acclimatized for two days and were randomly divided into control and treatment groups. Hypercholesterolemia was induced for two weeks. The experiment proper lasted for two weeks with the treatment group receiving 0.04ml/kg/day of oregano oil. Blood samples were taken at the end of each period for determination of total cholesterol and LDL levels. Total cholesterol and LDL serum levels from baseline to second extraction showed significant increase of both control and treatment groups. There are no significant changes in the total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol for control and treatment group after the end of the treatment period.
