ABSTRACT: Throughout life, people have used tea, whether black or green, for their beneficial effects. The objective of this study is to compare the difference between the lowering effects of gree tea and black tea on blood glucose levels (BGL). The experiment used a within subjects design. All three groups, 8 subjects per group. had an intake of the two test agents as well as the water, which served as the control variable. Modified OGTT was utilized, wherein fasting blood glucose levels, BGL 30 minutes after intake of glucose, 30 and 60 minutes after intake of the test agents, were measured. Statistical analysis was done using One-way ANOVA repeated measures. Results showed that there was a significant decrease in blood glucose levels after 30 minutes with gree tea with a significance level of 0.064 (p=<0. 10) (mean=1.426). On the other hand, black tea had a mean value of 1.368, close to that of green tea. This, however, did not achieve a significant value 30 minutes after intake with significance level of .191 (p=<.10). After 60 minutes there was no significant difference in both test agents. In terms of which of the two types of tea has a greater effect, there was no significant difference (sig=0.938) (p=<0.10). The study, therefore, accepts the null hypothesis, wherein there is no significant difference between gree tea and black tea on lowering blood glucose levels. However, gree tea was able to significantly decrease the BGL after 30 minutes.
