Dissertation note: Pharmacology Thesis Summary: This study investigates the hypoglycemic effect of orally administered Oregano (Origanum vulgare) leaf decoction versus Acarbose on hyperglycemic-induced male International Cancer Research (ICR) mice at one hour and thirty minutes postprandial blood glucose. 15 male ICR mice were divided into three groups. Group A received distilled water.Group B received oral Acarbose and Group C received Oregano leaf decoction. Blood glucose levels were determined at one hour and thirty minutes interval. Statistical test used are Paired T-Test and One-way ANOVA to determine if Oregano leaf decoction and Acarbose exerts a significant hypoglycemic effect at 1 hour and 30 minutes postprandial. Yielded results showed that the hypoglycemic effect of Oregano leaf decoction and Acarbose on one hour postprandial blood glucose is comparable and a period of one hour is required for the hypoglycemic action of Oregano to take effect.
