Summary: ABSTRACT: The effect of aqueous root extract of Lantana camara on wound closure was investigated. An incision made on each rat was treated with 5ml of 0.9% NSS each for the negative control group, mupirocin (Bactroban) 2% 20mg/g ointment for positive control, and 3ml of the Lantana camara aqueous root extract for the experimental group. Bactroban and Lantana camara root extract reached a mean of 94.81% and 91.77% wound closure at day 6, respectively. However, Nss showed only 35.5% wound closure on the last day of treatment. Results showed a significant difference on the wound closure between Bactroban and NSS, as well as between Lantana camara and NSS. However, there is no significant difference on the percent wound closure of Bactroban and Lantana camara. Thus, Lantana camara root extract has a comparable wound healing effect to that of commercially available Bactroban.
