Summary: ABSTRACT: Acute Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (AURI) is one of the leading causes of visits among pediatric and adult clinics. In August to September 2011 Census of FEU-NRMF Center Pay Treatment Room. AURI is the leading diagnosis made. The objective of this study is to determine the level of knowledge and awareness of a community regarding prevention of AURI-that is in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City-East Side, because the most number of patients seen in the PTR diagnosed with AURI is living in this area. A 25 item questionnaire written in Filipino, answerable by yes or no was utilized and answered by 64 participants-all were female and with a mean age of 37 years old; who came to attend the lecture and served as baseline knowledge of the participants. Results shows that the current knowledge of the respondents regarding AURI is fair, only 78% knew the disease. On the preventive measures, only 77% of the respondents are aware that AURI can be prevented. Then, lectures, video presentation and demonstration regarding AURI: its definition, etiology, symptoms, complications and prevention was conducted. After which a post test was done to determine if the action programs achieve a significant increase of 25% on the level of knowledge and awareness of the respondents. There is a 28% increase on the general knowledge on AURI and 34% increase on their awareness of the preventive measures. Thus, the action program was successful in achieving our target of educating the residents regarding these diseases.
