Summary: Abstract: Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus) and Escherichia coli (E.Coli) are some of bacterial pathogens that cause diseases in the community setting. To combat these diseases some people use chemically synthesized antibiotics while some refer to alternative herbal treatment like oregano. This research paper presents the effectiveness of the different oregano preparations and concentrations in inhibiting the growth of S.aureus and E.coli. The antimicrobial activities of oregano oil and oregano crude extract in different concentrations are evaluatedusing the disc diffusion method. Zones of inhibition made by the different oregano preparations in different dilutions are measured in millimeters and then compared with the standard through statistical test and zone diameter standard of the control. The results show that only the oregano oil and not the oregano crude extract exhibit zones of inhibition in all dilutions. it is effective in inhibiting the growth of both S.aureus and E.coli. Oregano oil is effective in inhibiting both S.aureus and E.coli at 100%, 1:2,1:4 and 1:16 concentrations. On the other hand it causes susceptibility to both S.aureus and E.coli at 100% and 1:2 concentrations.
