ABSTRACT: This research involves the study of the hypoglycemic property of Lagerstroemia speciosa Linn. This study serves to compare the hypoglycemic property of Lagerstroemia speciosa Linn. or banaba with the standard drug, Insulin. The leaves of the plant material were collected from residential areas in Cardona, Rizal, air-dried for two (2) weeks and ground. It was extracted by boiling the plant material in distilled water and expressed using cheesecloth and crude liquid extract was collected. The mice were induced to hyperglycemic state using glucose solution. Banaba leaf decoction and Insulin were administered respectively to two (2) groups of 10 hyperglycemic male Swiss mice. Blood glucose levels were determined after 30 minutes using a glucometer which were then compared and analyzed using t-test.
