Abstract: The preliminary evaluation conducted by the October-November 1994 batch of Junior Interns initially served to determine whether the training of the core group leader and officers of Area 3 Phase 2 Dagat-dagatan Malabon, Metro Manila has been effective or whether their program is geared towards what is expected. In order to assess the program being implemented by the core group, we conducted a survey among respondents who belong to the 15-24 year old bracket and who have completed all three activities of the program - house to house campaign, pamphlet distribution, and seminar. The increase in the knowledge of the respondents about the ill-effects of drugs was also determined by comparing the pre-test and post-test evaluation scores. The result of the preliminary evaluation revealed the weak points of the core group leader and officers during the implementation of their action program. Failure of the core group leader and officers to establish rapport with the respondents, inadequacy of resources and inefficient communication skills were the weak points identified. A comparison of the result of pre-test and post-test evaluation scores and ratings were made. Result showed a significant increase in the knowledge about the ill effects of drugs among the respondents.
