Abstract: People, especially women, use copious amounts of makeup every day. It is not even applied once a day since women like to keep their faces attractive with the use of cosmetics. For years, cosmetics are said to contain lead. Lead toxic substance that can harm the human organs in the body. Studies have been conducted on number of cosmetics such as eye liners and lipstick which have lead content in it. In this study, the researchers would assess how much lead is contained in the counterfeit lipstick products in the Philippines through the use of atomic absorption spectrometry to calculate which of those brands have the highest lead content. From acquiring fifteen lipstick samples of brand imitation lipstick products from Divisoria, Manila where imitation products are widely available and accessible and using the Flame Atomic Absoption Spectrophotometer, the lead content of each sample was identified from preparation of the sample with 2M Hydrochloric acid to sampling. This yielded the result of 53.33/% of the sample containing more than 10 ppm, and 46.67% are below the FDA allowable lead content in cosmetics. One brand with three samples showed an average of 10035.48 ppm which highly exceeded the allowable lead content.
