Summary: Abstract: This study aims to identify lifestyle factors that predispose individuals in Republic Ave. and Nawasa Line, Brgy. Holy Spirit, Quezon City to Cerebrovascular Accident. The investigators used a Purposive Quota Sampling to survey a total sample of 48 subjects. An interview questionnaire was provided to subject so as to assist the investigators in obtaining personal information, demographics, and lifestyle information. Eating fatty food such as pork, drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking were among the lifestyle factors that was identified. Out of 48 subjects, eating fatty foods was highest factor (75%) identified associated with the occurrence of CVA out of 75% identified, subjects, 68% of the subjects were mostly eating pork as their food preference in a week, followed by 65% of the subjects which were alcoholic beverage drinkers that occasionally drink 1-3 bottles per week for 21-30 years. Surprisingly, only 46% of the subjects were cigarette smokers before the attack of their stroke which is complete opposite with other studies where cigarette smoking has been well known as a possible risk factor for stroke. Overall, the investigators were able to conclude that the most clearly associated with higher risk for CVA in Republic Ave and Nawasa Line, Barangay Holy Spirit Quezon City is occasional consumption of alcohol of 1-3 bottles per week for 21-30 years. Unhealthy diet such as eating pork and oily food was identified as the 2nd lifestyle factors which predispose individuals. Both of these findings have consistently been described in previous studies as a lifestyle risk factors for CVA. From the sample the investigators surveyed, it was revealed that there were few identified smokers who were not consistent with previous studies where smoking has been rationally identified as possible lifestyle risk factors for CVA.
