ABSTRACT: This is a study of the effect of peanut supplemented diet on 12 cats. The study was divided into 4 main groups. Each group was given a modified type of diet: regular diet, regular diet with peanuts, high fat diet, high fat diet with peanuts. These were randomly given for two weeks. Afterwards, all groups were given regular diet without modification. Four time determinations of cholesterol level of each subject was determined at a one week interval in between determinations. Weights of cats were also taken at the same time. Interaction between the diet and time as to serum cholesterol levels in cats were also studied. The effectivity of peanut supplementation yielded satisfactory results. Peanut supplementation of 7.5 gm daily resulted in significant lowering serum cholesterol level.
