Summary: Abstract: Antioxidanta have been linked with anticonvulsnt properties. Lycopene is a well known compound that has antioxidant property and is popularly found in tomatoes. This study aims to determine effect of lycopene from lycopene capsule (Lyc-O-Mato) on the duration of isoniazid-induced seizures in ICR mice as an alternatve therapy to commercially available anti-seizure drug. Fourty-three (43) mice of either sex were grouped according to their respective treatments as follows: diazepan 10 mg/kg, lycopene concentrate of 20mg/kg and a negative control group. After which, they were subjected to isoniazid-induced seizure. Seizure activity was video recorded and graded using the Revised Racine`s Scale. P-values of <0.05 indicate significant differences. Statistical analyses used are One-Way ANOVA, with Duncan`s Multiple Range Test (DMRT), Kruskal - Wallis Analysis of Variance, with Student-Newman-Keuls (S-N-K) test for post hoc analysis and Fisher`s exact test. Results showed that the average duration of all the groups are the same. On the countrary, lycopene of any dosage or diazepam mostly manifested motionless staring compared to the control. Therefore, lycopene from lycopene capsule did not have a very significant effect on isoniazid-induce seizure activity of ICR mice.
