Summary: Abstract: The cost of medicines, health care facilities and medical services are beyond the reach of the majority of our country`s population. With this dilemma, the government has placed hope that the implementation of Senate Bill No. 1471 entitled - "Traditional and Alternative Health Care Development Act of 1996". written by Senator Juan Flavier et al, would provide the best possible health care services for the public. However, with its aim to accelerate the development of traditional and alternative health care in the Philippines, through its formal and legal health care delivery system, it is inevitable that some issues and arguments raised by some sectors: particularly the Philippine Medical Association (P.M.A.) The on-going "battle" between these two sectors, had caught our interest to evaluate the said Bill - thus our study. Much emphasis was on the determination of the level of awareness and attitude of medical students regarding Senate Bill No. 1471 as part of the evaluation of the Bill itself. Moreover, this purposely done to find out who favors the enactment of the bill as well as those who oppose it. Being the future medical practitioners, they should have insights on the impact of the implementation of the bill in the socio-economic and medical profession. Or simply know if these students are aware that such bill exists. However, in case there is an insufficient knowledge and information among the selected students, this study intends to inspire the government to extensively disseminate necessary information regarding the said bill. And at the same time encourage other researchers to study and explore more deeply the significance of this. Poor compliance and uncooperative respondents are expected, thus, conduction of pre-testing was included prior to the final dissemination of questionnaires among selected medical students - first year of FEU-NRMF, school year 1996-1997. These subjects were randomly selected through stratified and systematic method of selection. Without so much constraints, this has a time frame of four months, from July 1996 to October 1996. Senate Bill 1471 is an act creating the Traditional Alternative Health Care Institute to accelerate the development of traditional and alternative health care in the Philippines providing for a Traditional and Alternative Health Care Development Fund and for other purposes. This was formerly known as SB 995 with minor revisions in the title contents. Our study is mainly related on Article I and II and Sec. 5 of Article III.
