Dissertation note: Pharmacology Thesis Summary: Mangifera indica I., is one of the Philippine medical plants, which has antidiarrhel property, The objective of this study was to determine the hypomotility property of extract from mature mango bark and compare it with normal saline solution, and Lomotil given at higher dosage, base on the distance traveled by the mixed solution of activated charcoal & castor oil in the internal segment of mice. Result shows that Negative control (NSS) has a percentage traveled value of 90%, Positive control (Lomotil) has a percentage-traveled value of 42.99% and Mangoextract of 46.25%. The estimated mean different between NSS and mango crude extract is 43.82. ANOVA & Bonferonni multiple comparison test turned out that the mean difference between NSS and mango crude extract is significant (p=0.000). This value explain that mango extract exhibit by hypomotility property as shown by the lesser distance traveled in the crude mango bark extracts. The estimated mean difference between mango crude extract and Lomotil is 3.3 and was found to show that the mean difference is not significant (p =0.63), which means that the hypomotility effect of mango bark extracts is comparable to that of higher dose Lomotil. However, no enough evidence was found to show that higher dose Lomotil is more effective than mango extract and vice versa.
