Summary: Abstract: A preliminary survey conducted among the residents of Dagat-dagatan, Malabon, Metro Manila by the June-July 19993 batch of Junior Interns of FEU-NRMF Department of Community and Family Medicine showed that 18.2 % of those surveyed were abusers and that the majority of them belong to the 15 - 24 age group. The August-September 1993 batch of DFM clerks embarked on an information campaign aimed at increasing their knowledge on drug abuse and at redirecting their efforts into concern for environmental sanitation. One hundred fifty respondents were taken from the target population and these were those failing within the 15 - 24 age group and those who were present during our two-day house to house screening procedure. After which a two-day pretesting was conducted by the same junior interns who covered the block. Information materials and invitations were distributed into every household. Campaign posters and invitations were likewise posted on strategic places in the community. Film-showing, poster making contest, garbage can making and lectures were also done. Their level of knowledge were then evaluated through a pre-test and post-test interview guided questionnaire method, the mean score by area and as a whole was taken differences between the mean score of pre-test and post-test were tested for significance using the z-test. Knowledge was increased by only 23 %. However, their attitudes were improved based on the change in their pre and post-test answers.
