LISTENING TO MUSIC AS AN EFFECTIVE STRATEGY FOR ENHANCING THE STUDY HABITS OF THE LEVEL III NURSING STUDENTS OF FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY - DR. NICANOR REYES MEDICAL FOUNDATION

Summary: ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to discuss the relationship between music and memory retention including the different types of music, Its effect and influences, application on our daily lives, and its ability to enhance or improve memory retention of the target respondents, the level III nursing students of FEU-NRMF. This also aimed to measure the level of effectiveness in relation to the respondent`s music references. This study was mainly centered and delimited on the answer gathered from the respondents which were carefully collated and assessed. The results were achieved will show what appropriate music is suited to trigger an individual`s memory retention, in which a student can use as a strategy to help in their studies. Based from the data collected by the researchers, the findings showed that majority of the respondents were: 19 years old, females, Roman Catholic and Filipino; who were based from the demographic profile of the respondents. From the assessed questionnaires answered by the respondents, the researchers found out that Third year nursing students preferred to listen music to enhance their study habits with the use of RnB or Rhythm and Blues for Relaxation and Motivating Factors; Classical for Therapeutic Benefits. The researchers concluded that Rhythm and Blues were the acceptable type of music that the respondents preferred to listen in enhancing their study habits, which in the popular music genre in this generation. It also showcases a playful rhythm and melody that fits the personalities of an individual. The researchers also suggested Classical music as a tool for enhancing the study habits of the Level III respondents, who had an energetic movement of beats and could make steady pulsation that keeps and individual from getting tired. The researchers recommended this study to the nursing students of FEU-NRMF, this will give them an idea or an aid for enhancing their study habits. This is also recommended to the future researchers, that this research will give them an idea that music is not just for listening but also for other purposes such as for Stimulating or Motivating Factors which are unaware to the readers or students. The researchers also recommended this study to the professors, that this study will give them an idea or a suggestion which can be applied for lecture presentations.
